Kerala | October 2015
Situated on India's Southwest coast with its shores brushing up against the Arabian Sea lies the state of Kerala. Out here palm tree-lined canals act like aquatic boulevards which transport tourists and locals alike on a network of tranquil backwaters. Tea and spice plantations slowly slide into view as the boats crawl along, only broken by the sight of modest dwellings in between.
After two months in India, and, more specifically, in Bangalore, my coworkers and I decided that we needed to take a trip. And not just any trip, but a kick-your-feet-up-and-relax-with-a-drink-in-your-hand kind of trip. Enter, Kerala. So we boarded a sleeper bus heading south and then rented a pair of three bed/three bath houseboats for two nights and set sail, cruising the calm waters in our mini armada.
With music bumping, cards shuffling and drinks flowing we took in the serene landscape as it slowly passed us by, only taking breaks to eat the local meals prepared by our crew.
Kerala is paradise incarnate with fantastic people and even better sunsets. There is no better place to forget about the chaos of everyday life and press pause, allowing the beauty of the backwaters to come to you.
